Why does healing old wounds hurt?

Many of us encounter this question on the journey of healing—not only our own personal patterns, but sometimes ancestral lineage patterns as well. This inner work often feels necessary for growth and, in a broader sense, for humanity to evolve and expand. It is not easy work. Many emotional and energetic patterns are deeply imprinted in our system.

My own understanding of healing looks like this:

First, you become aware of the pattern. Then, you need time to acclimatise to it and recognise it as an energetic imprint within your system. This phase can take anywhere from a few weeks to several months, depending on how hidden or unconscious the wound has been.

This process can be truly painful. It is not a quick “think positive and change your thoughts” kind of process. It requires commitment, patience, and the willingness to support yourself through different healing tools and practices.

These may include breathwork, grounding techniques, speaking to a therapist, engaging in shamanic or spiritual work, or talking with a trusted friend who can genuinely help you understand what is happening within you. You may also benefit from being around someone who is truly heart-centred, as this presence can help elevate and support your own energetic state.

I wish you strength on your healing journey. I understand how difficult inner alchemy can be. If you feel ready to move into a higher vibrational space, seek support that resonates with you and feels safe and grounded.
